Immigration Medical Exam

USCIS medical exam is needed for people applying for a green card or other immigration benefits in the United States. The purpose of the medical exam is to ensure that applicants do not have any communicable diseases or medical conditions that could pose a public health risk or affect their eligibility for immigration benefits.

The Exam Process

The medical exam will include:

Vaccination Requirements: You may need to show proof of vaccinations (e.g., MMR, tetanus, etc.), or you may be required to take them.

Physical Exam: The doctor will perform a basic physical examination.

Mental Health: Screening for mental health issues.

Communicable Diseases: Tests for diseases like tuberculosis, syphilis, and gonorrhea. In some cases, a chest X-ray may be required to screen for tuberculosis.

What to Bring

  • A valid passport or government-issued ID.
  • Any medical records that may be relevant (e.g., vaccination history, prior medical conditions).
  • Form I-693 which the civil surgeon will complete. This form is submitted to USCIS as part of the green card application process.
  • Payment for the cost of the medical exam.

Cost of the Exam

  • $300. This price does not include any additional vaccines needed if you are not fully vaccinated  or have incomplete vaccine records.

Results and Submission

  • After the exam, the civil surgeon will complete Form I-693, which includes your medical results. This form must be sealed in an envelope and submitted to USCIS as part of your green card or immigration application.
  • The exam results are confidential and typically are not shared with anyone other than USCIS.
